As one of the number one installers of newt fencing across the country, we guarantee a speedy no compromise service, which is available in standard and special specifications.
The guidelines for all installations of newt protective fencing should follow the procedures set by Natural England and English Nature Newt Migration. The benchmark for anyone providing these services involves a very specific set of rules and requirements that provide the client with detailed instructions but also suit the requirements of the newt.
Heathland Aquatic Engineering’s Newt Fencing Services
As with other fencing installations for other members of the UK’s wildlife population, such as otters and voles, Heathland Aquatic Engineering adhere to standard procedures requiring the use of UV stabilised polythene membranes for improved material life and quality timber stakes for supporting any materials above ground level.
Newt fences are installed to a depth on no less than 200mm underground and supported at a 100mm right angle to ensure newts are unable to find a passing passage across the fencing. Once complete all trenching is back-filled and compacted to remove any risk of voids, which could allow newt movements.
All timber materials will be treated if long-term installations are required, non-treated timbers can be used for short periods to help keep prices to a minimum but will not be suitable for long-term installations of newt fencing. All fixings will be non-rust to make sure the newt barrier does not fail.
We have been involved in the installation of newt fences across much of the country and its good to know we are able to assist in the protection of this species and other species such as voles and otters that are sometimes at risk in our ever changing environment.
