What is Pond Aquatic Chalk?
Pond Aquatic Chalk is a Calcium Carbonate also known as chalk. We have worked very hard over the years with a number of suppliers to find the very best available to make sure it is highly penetrative and extremely porous. Our Pond Aquatic Chalk consists of minute particles which are extremely sensitive to the environment and safe to all fish life, plant life and all other creatures that can be found in aquatic environments.
Why would you use Pond Aquatic Chalk?

Where to use Heathland Pond Aquatic Chalk?
Our Pond Aquatic Chalk can be used in all freshwater pond environments, including ornamental ponds, wildlife ponds, fishing ponds and stock ponds where organic silt is a potential problem. In situations where the reduction in PH and high acidity is seen, our chalk can also be used to increase the PH and reduce acidity levels.
Why and how does Pond Aquatic Chalk work?
Silt is an organic matter, which consists of sand and clay, combined with water, to form the soft mass we all know as silt. This is a natural process and silt accumulates in any pond when micro-organisms that would normally be in abundance to feed on the organic matter are no longer present. The reduction in these important micro-organisms is normally due to low oxygen levels and an increase in acidity. The microscopic pond aquatic chalk particles are able to penetrate deep into the surface silt layer and once again create the perfect environment for the natural micro-organisms to re-establish and begin to digest the organic matter. As a result of this action natural reduction of silt occurs along with a reduced silt volume.
Pond Aquatic Chalks will always work best when the silt is both high in organic content and increased acidity.
How to apply Pond Aquatic Chalk?
All of our chalk is supplied in 25kg sacks which can be applied by simply sprinkling / spreading over the water surface. When treating larger areas of water the use of a boat maybe of use to allow even application to all areas.
It is important that in all situations the entire pond is treated and not just the worst areas or areas of preference. General rules are to use 1 tonne of chalk per surface acre of water, allowing a single dose every six months for the first year and then yearly after this.
This method can greatly reduce the cost of heavier forms of silt removal such as dredging, it will also allow the costs to be spread over a number of years rather than one large expense.
