Canal Dredging

Canal Dredging, silt and weed removal from canals - Heathland Aquatic Engineering Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, LondonAs we start to see an increase in rainfall, it’s not  just rivers that are affected. Canals are also adversely affected by heavy rainfall and dredging is an important maintenance requirement to help handle the increased volumes of water flowing into them from seasonal rainfall.

Rising silt levels in canals

There are a number of causes of silt build up in canals, these are just some of the them;

  • Increased solid input from ground drainage
  • Un-managed vegetation, i.e. aquatic weed and plant growth
  • Erosion of canal banks

Silt Removal from Canals

Heathland Aquatic Engineering has a large fleet of machinery designed to deal with the build up of silt and mud in canals and we can also remove silt from areas which are inaccessible from the canal banks.  We are able to handle silt removal projects of any size using our long reach excavators or floating hydraulic dredgers. We can also provide accurate silt surveys of the canal that requires dredging prior to tendering for any work, using our specialist scanning and mapping applications.
